7 Houseplants That Clean The Air And Are Almost Impossible To Kill
Did you know that indoor air toxicity is often up to twice that of outdoor, which can lead to asthma, headaches, allergies, hormone imbalances and other health problems.
Pollutants that let off poisonous chemicals and gases: cleaning products, make up, carpets, furniture, paints, computers, synthetic fragrances, dust, mold, smoking, dry cleaning clothes…
We will particularly mention formaldehyde as a primary component of indoor toxic air. It is in building materials, cigarette smoking, cleaning products, facial tissues, waxed papers and paper towels, glues and adhesives…
The combined efforts of NASA and the Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ACLA) resulted in a two-year study that concluded that indoor plants can effectively absorb formaldehyde from the air. Some of them are as follows:
1) Snake plant (mother-in-low tongue)
It is also known as “the bedroom plant” as it converts CO2 into oxygen during the night. It removes benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene, toluene from indoor air.
They need water only occasionally (about once per month) and prefer drier conditions. They don’t need much direct sunlight either.
2) Devil’s Ivy (Golden pothos)
It is quite efficient at cleansing the air of pollutants, such as benzene, trichloroethane, xylene and formaldehyde.
3) Areca palm
It is rated among the most effective houseplants at removing indoor toxins. Releases a large amount of moisture into the air, converts CO2 into oxygen and remove chemical toxins from air.
4) Spider
plants are incredibly easy to grow, so if you’re a beginner, this is a great one to start with. It lights bright, indirect light and sends out shoots with flowers on them that will eventually grow into baby spider plants that you can propagate yourself. Before too long, you’ll have more spider plants than you’ll know what to do with.
5) Hill palm
Remove formaldehyde, add moisture to dry air
6) Peace Lily
It has a great air cleaning abilities. It removes ammonia, benzene, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene.
Helps absorbing radiation from electronic devices, so place it beside TV, computer, radio…
7 ) Aloe vera
helps relieve burns, and cleans your indoor air as well. It removes formaldehyde effectively from indoor air. Absorb CO2 and increase oxygen levels of room air.
Having these plants inside home or office will dramatically improve air quality in Belgrade apartments and offices.
